The Indiana University Student Health Center is part of The Office of Student Life and provides comprehensive on-campus facilities dedicated to supporting student well-being. It offers health promotion programs, a full-service medical clinic, counseling and psychological services (CAPS), and a pharmacy, all tailored to meet the unique needs of IU Bloomington students. With a focus on student-centered care, the Health Center strives to enhance the student experience and promote success through accessible, high-quality services.


The Health Educator position focused on interpersonal violence and hazing prevention is a critical role at a flagship institution. Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) currently has over 700 student organizations, club sports teams, and scholar programs that are all vulnerable to hazing. As a result, this position is necessary to extend the work of The Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life by creating robust support for preventing instances of violence.

Job Summary



Reporting to the Associate Director, Health Promotion, the Health Educator is responsible for Interpersonal Violence prevention, healthy interpersonal relationship development, and hazing prevention for non-Greek life student organizations. This position will develop programmatic offerings, trainings, and educational content focused on preventing instances of hazing and developing healthy interpersonal relationships and communities. This position will work in close partnership with The Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life to ensure a comprehensive approach to hazing prevention for non-Greek life students, and will be vital in raising awareness and developing critical interventions to build safe communities on the IUB campus.


Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Programming and Outreach:

    • Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion programming, health education, and outreach initiatives focused on preventing hazing in non-Greek life student populations and developing healthy interpersonal relationships between individuals and within communities.

    • Collaborates with Office of Fraternity and Sorority life to ensure alignment with established hazing prevention practices, programming, and trainings.

    • Serves as a member of the Office of Student Life Hazing Coalition.

    • Conducts regular assessments of hazing prevention and other risk prevention education to ensure effectiveness and relevancy.

    • Develops awareness and skills-based trainings for the general campus community based on data-driven needs and priorities.

    • Collaborates with other departmental staff to develop intersectional programming that addresses the holistic needs of IU students.

    • Collaborates with Peer Health student leader program to develop and implement student-led interpersonal violence prevention, healthy interpersonal relationship development, and hazing prevention initiatives.



  • Administrative:

    • Ensures compliance with relevant policies, laws, and regulations related to health promotion programmatic and training offerings.

    • Seeks and secures funding opportunities, including grants and partnerships, to support health promotion and health education activities.



  • Consultation and Collaboration:

    • Develops and manages critical partnerships with campus partners, external stakeholders, and community partners to support a comprehensive approach toward student well-being.

    • Serves on Office of Student Life and university-wide long-term and ad hoc committees.

    • Collaborates with student organizations, faculty, and staff on health education or health promotion to develop short and long-range programming that align with the mission and vision of the department.

    • Acts as a subject matter expert in assisting non-departmental units with developing content for related programming.



  • Other duties as assigned:

    • Leads or participates in special projects, committees, and task forces related to student well-being, public health, or other university initiatives.



General Responsibilities


  • Directs and administrates health promotion marketing and public health programs.

  • Plans health and wellness programming while in collaboration with various department, campus, and university liaisons.

  • Utilizes data to assess the needs of programming and assesses programming outcomes.

  • Contributes to committees and staff training as a subject matter expert.




Qualifications



Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.


EDUCATION



Required



  • Bachelor's degree in mental health, social work, student affairs, health education, public health, or a related field.


Preferred



  • Master's degree in public health, health promotion, health education, or a related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE



Required



  • 3 years in a related field.


Preferred



  • 2 years of progressive responsibility in health promotion, health education, or a related field.

  • 1 year of experience in higher education.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES



Preferred



  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) from the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC).

Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. It involves both sedentary work and periods of movement around an office environment and the campus. The person in this position must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary



$53,000.00 - 55,000.00 per year
