JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY
The School Nurse is an essential role to our schools and will oversee the emotional, mental, physical, and social health of students and maintain a safe and healthy environment. School Nurses are assigned to work across the district in one or multiple school locations depending on the needs of the school. School Nurses must be willing to work at any school location, as school assignments are based on student needs. School Nurses must also be flexible and prepared to serve either as a 1:1 support nurse for a student with higher level health needs, or in a general role within the school health office.

REQUIREMENTS
Education Level Details
Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing or three (3) or more years of licensed, practical experience as an RN with school-aged children.and be able to show proof of enrollment in a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing program in lue of RN degree.
License / Certification Required
Current Colorado Department of Education Special Service Provider License - School Nurse endorsement required or be able to obtain within 90 days of hire.
Be licensed as a registered nurse by the State of Colorado.
Possess a current certificate for Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and be able to renew it as required.
Work Experience Required
One year experience as a nurse
School experience preferred
Other Skills and Abilities Required
Bilingual preferred

EVALUATION
Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provision of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel with input from district administrators.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Health & Wellness Responsibilities
  • Support an optimal level of physical and mental wellness to enhance the educational process and student outcomes.
  • Identify and address health-related factors that interfere with student learning. Collaborate with staff and families to mitigate or eliminate those barriers.
  • Provide comprehensive health services, including first aid, well-child care, medication administration, immunization compliance, and emergency support for students at the assigned school.
  • Conduct state-mandated and school-initiated screenings (e.g., scoliosis, vision, hearing, height, and weight). Make referrals and conduct follow-ups as necessary to support student health.
Data & Program Evaluation
  • Collect, monitor, and analyze student health and wellness data to assess program effectiveness.
  • Use health data to inform service adjustments and support broader school initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student health records using District software systems. Complete accident reports, health documentation, and required state and district reporting.
Communication & Collaboration
  • Stakeholder Relationships: Build and maintain professional relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners to support student health and learning.
  • Policy Implementation: Apply Board of Education policy on exclusion and re-admittance of students related to infectious and communicable diseases in collaboration with school administrators and local health agencies.
Professional Growth & Instructional Support
  • Actively participate in professional development activities to enhance job-specific knowledge and skills.
  • Collaborate on the development and integration of health education curriculum when applicable.
  • Adhere to all Colorado Department of Education, District, and school regulations applicable to licensed educators. Attend staff meetings, serve on school committees, and assist with selection of instructional health-related materials.
  • Compile and submit reports for the Superintendent, Board of Education, and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment as required.
Policy, Reports and Law
  • Comply with all applicable federal laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and other regulations governing K-12 public education and related services.
  • Follow all Colorado state laws and regulations related to speech-language pathology, including licensure requirements through the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) and, if applicable, the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA).
  • Adhere to the standards and expectations outlined in the Exceptional Children's Educational Act (ECEA) and all relevant CDE guidelines for the provision of speech and language services.
  • Comply with Adams 14 Board of Education policies and operational procedures related to assessment, student services, documentation, and professional conduct.
  • Uphold all district and school-based procedures for service delivery, parent communication, data reporting, and participation in IEP meetings and school-based teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal, Director of Special Services, or Superintendent of Schools.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work primarily in a usual office or school environment including classrooms, cafeterias, hallways, playgrounds, gyms, and other spaces accessible to students. The Employee may be required to work from a remote location in the event of a district shut-down or other event.

Mental Functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, compare, analyze, coordinate, instruct, evaluate, and use interpersonal skills. Occasionally required to compile, copy, compute and negotiate.

Compensation for this position is $64,046 to $121,414 per year (2025-2026), based on verified experience and qualifications, and aligned with the Adams 14 salary schedule. This position is scheduled for 188 work days annually. Additional compensation opportunities may be available through stipends or supplemental assignments, depending on job responsibilities.
